Meet Terry Bradshaw, a professor who has been caring for an apple tree for over 25 years. Apple trees may be a common sight, but there’s a lot more to orchard trees than meets the eye. In this class, you’ll learn about the history, production, and commercial importance of orchard trees. You’ll also explore newer systems of orchard management, all through the lens of sustainability.

One innovative system Terry will introduce you to is the planting of peach trees just three feet apart, allowing for over 1200 trees per acre. This new style of planting involves artificial trunks and multiple varieties of peaches. You’ll also learn about ground cover management and other key aspects of commercial orchard systems.

But the class isn’t just about apples and peaches. Terry will also touch on the risks and rewards of growing different types of fruit trees, including Vermont-grown peaches. You may even get to taste some high-quality hard ciders made from innovative tree training techniques.
